Holguin natives on the list for the American Cup baseball

Three athletes and one coach represent Holguin on the pre-selection list from which the Cuban team will be selected for the first edition of the American Cup baseball tournament next November.

The list of 59 athletes includes infielder Lázaro Alfredo Cedeño González, outfielder Yasiel Andy González García, and pitcher Michel Alejandro Cabrera Rodríguez. While Noelvis González Matos, also from Holguin, appears as the bench coach on the management team.

The Holguin natives who make up this pre-selection have shown excellent numbers so far in the 64th edition of the National Series.

Cedeño, who hit his 101st home run in the National Series this Tuesday. He is averaging .403 (52 in 129), has 10 doubles, the same number of home runs, and 41 RBIs.

Yasiel has a .371 batting average (39 in 105), with five doubles, 10 home runs, and 24 runs scored.

Meanwhile, Cabrera, in 13 relief appearances, has a record of five wins and only one los. In addition to seven saves, joint-leading in that department.

The Cuban pre-selection roster features five catchers, 15 infielders, 12 outfielders, and 27 pitchers, under the leadership of manager Germán Mesa.

Along with the players currently playing in the national series, some players currently playing in Mexican leagues were also called up. Such as infielders Yiddi Cappe and Jean Harvin Walters Valdés. As well as outfielder Juan Carlos Negret and pitcher Yusniel Padrón Artiles.

In addition to Noelvis, Germán will be joined by Humberto Guevara, head coach. Omar Linares, hitting coach; Jesús Bosmenier and Pedro Luis Lazo, pitching coaches. And coaches Rafael Muñoz and Cecilio Javier Dreke.

The National Commission confirmed that this same coaching staff would assume the team’s management for the VI World Baseball Classic in 2026. If the U.S. government definitively grants the license for Cuba to participate in that tournament.

Cuba will play the preliminary phase of the American Cup in Venezuela from November 12th to 17th. Where Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Curaçao have also been placed.

The other segment, based in Panama, also the final venue. Includes Puerto Rico, Colombia, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, and the hosts.
