Cubs visit Mayabeque in the National Series

The Holguin Cubs visit the Mayabeque Hurricanes as the eighth match of the 64th National Baseball Series begins this Tuesday.

By defeating the Camagüey Bulls in all five games at home, the Holguin Cubs secured their second sweep in the competition. Having previously won against Guantanamo, also at home. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes recently lost 3-2 to the Cienfuegos Elephants.

The Holguin Cubs show their greatest strength in their offense. With a team average of .321 (third in the series), 37 home runs (third), and 212 RBIs (fourth). The Cubs’ defense is .972, above the championship average.

Meanwhile, Holguin’s pitching boasts a 5.20 earned run average (ERA) (9th), a .293 opponent’s batting average. A 1.56 whip, and a favorable strikeout-to-walk ratio (168/116 = 1.45).

The Hurricanes have a .277 offensive average (8th), with 15 home runs and 145 RBIs. Their pitching is the most effective in the championship with a 3.50 ERA, and their defense boasts a .974 average.

The so-called qualifying zone for the series is as follows: Matanzas (24-11), followed by Holguin (23-11 at 0.5), Artemisa, Industriales, and Las Tunas (20-12 at 2.5). Santiago de Cuba (20-13 at 3.0), Sancti Spiritus (20-15 at 4.0), and Mayabeque (18-16 at 5.5).

In addition to the Holguin-Mayabeque matchup, starting this Tuesday, Sancti Spiritus-Pinar. Matanzas-La Isla; Guantanamo-Industriales. Las Tunas-Villa Clara; Santiago-Ciego. Cienfuegos-Camagüey; and Artemisa-Granma will face each other.
