The Holguin Cubs recorded their seventh consecutive victory this Sunday. 18-8 against the Camagüey Bulls, and achieved their only sweep in the seventh game of the 64th National Baseball Series.
Playing at home at the Mayor General Calixto García Stadium, the Cubs of young mentor Lugdis Pineda hit 15 hits. Including Lázaro Cedeño’s 100th home run in the National Series and his ninth of the season. Cedeño went 2-for-4 with four RBIs to reach 39.
For the Northeastern Cubs, slugger Yasiel González also hit home runs. His tenth of the season, Arley Poll and Jorlis Bravo’s first career home runs, and Edward Magaña’s second.
This was Wilson Paredes’ fourth win, who has only one loss, and Michel Cabrera’s seventh save for the current all-time leader in that department. It was also the sixth consecutive loss for the Agramontino bulls.
For the defeated, who hit 10 hits and committed two fouls. Reynaldo Almanza (8th), Yosbel Pérez (5th), and Yan Pomares (1st) fielded. After Sunday’s events, the following teams make up the qualifying zone: Matanzas (24-11), followed by Holguin (23-11), Artemisa (20-12), Industriales (20-12), Las Tunas (20-12), Santiago de Cuba (20-13), Sancti Spiritus (20-15), and Mayabeque (18-16).
The Holguin Cubs will return to the Calixto García Stadium on November 18th when they host the Matanzas Crocodiles. Before that, they will face the teams from Mayabeque, Ciego de Avila, Santiago, and Artemisa on the road, in this order.
