Cubs in the second place in the National Baseball Series

The Holguin Cubs, as hosts at the Calixto García Stadium, defeated the Camagüey Bulls 3-2 this Wednesday to secure the match (3-0) and consolidate their second place in the 64th National Baseball Series.

Lugdis Pineda’s squad secured their fifth consecutive victory in the series. Their third against their victims this Thursday, and moved within a game and a half of the leaders. The Matanzas Crocodiles, who split their doubleheader on this date.

Michael Gorgüet was once again the protagonist, connecting on a home run that gave them the decisive lead.

Carlos Alberto Santiesteban (4-2) endured a seven-inning clean sweep. Aided by José Miguel Rodríguez, who, although he allowed one run, got the last six outs and earned his first save. The loss went to Riquelme Odelín (1-1), who pitched the entire game.

For their part, the Matanzas Crocodiles triumphed 5-1 in the first game against the Roosters at the José Antonio Huelga stadium. But in the second inning, the Roosters took revenge, winning 2-0.

At the July 26th Stadium, Industriales de La Habana and Hunters de Artemisa also split the honors in their doubleheader. The Lions relied on the arm of Raymond Figueredo to win the first game by a final score of 7-1. Then came the revenge of the hosts, who prevailed by the same score.

The Mayabeque Hurricanes secured their place in the qualifying group with a 14-2 victory over the Cienfuegos Elephants at the 5 de Septiembre Stadium. In other matches, the Granma Alazanes defeated the Guantanamo Indians for the third time. This time with an 11-3 scoreline, while the Pinar del Rio Vegueros defeated the La Isla Pirates 8-2.

For the third consecutive matchday, the Villa Clara and Ciego de Ateams were unable to play due to the impact of rain on Ciego de Avila.

For this reason, Santiago de Cuba sealed their victory in the second inning. Defeating the reigning champions from Las Tunas 3-2.

After this competitive round, the standings are as follows: Matanzas (23-10), Holguin (21-11 at 1.5), Industriales, Artemisa, and Santiago (19-11 at 2.5). Las Tunas (18-11 at 3.0), Sancti Spiritus (19-14 at 4.0), and Mayabeque (18-14 at 4.5). Camagüey (15-18 at 8.0) is in 11th place.
