Before departing for Las Tunas, the event’s venue, the Holguin delegation participating in the 26th National History Congress held a meeting with the highest political and governmental leadership of the territory.
With the presence of Joel Queipo Ruíz, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Holguin. Manuel Hernández Aguilera, Governor of the Province, the exchange was fruitful. Allowing the delegates to discuss the research projects approved for their participation in the conclave.
They also analyzed the importance of historical research, the Memory that Saves Project. The actions of La Mezquita Publishing House, and other issues of great interest to the Union of Cuban Historians.
Queipo Ruíz spoke with Carlos Antonio Córdova Martínez, an octogenarian doctor of philosophical sciences. Moreover who was recently awarded the 2025 Provincial History Prize for his outstanding career spanning more than 50 years dedicated to teaching and historical research.
A total of 16 delegates make up the Holguin delegation. Including experienced researchers, professors, two students, and a guest from the sugar industry. Researcher and promoter Ventura Carballido will also attend. Giving a special presentation on the “The Memory that Saves” Project. Also given the interest in extending this experience nationwide.
Víctor Aguilera Nonell, first vice president of the Union of Cuban Historians in Holguin. He emphasized that the Holguin delegation will be the largest to participate in the Congress across the four working committees. A result of the serious and organized work carried out in the province’s 33 grassroots sections.
For her part, Mayra San Miguel Aguilar, Master’s in Cuban History and Culture, reported that of the 80 papers to be presented at the event, 18 are from Holguin. Futhermore it has been the province with the highest number of selected research projects in the last three congresses.
Meanwhile, Wendy Yilian Hidalgo, a fourth-year History student at the University of Holguin and the youngest member of the delegation. She expressed her satisfaction at participating in this congress and the opportunity to present her work on Holguin women who participated in the Rebel Army.

The 26th National History Congress is being held under the motto “United all by the bond of patriotism” from October 13th to 15th.
