Cristina Fernández was right: Silvio Rodríguez’s concerts are authentic acts of good taste and sublime music for the ears of millions of Argentines. As the former president foresaw when previewing his performances at the Movistar Arena.
Once again, on Sunday night, good organization prevailed in the indoor venue. With a disciplined audience that enjoyed and sang along to many of his songs. Or listened closely to some from his new album ” I wanted to know,” and completed the repertoire with classics from his prolific work.
There were no giant screens on either side of the stage. As is typical at the usual raucous concerts. Silvio wanted common sense to prevail, for the audience to focus on the songs, the lyrics, and enjoy the content and the music.
And that’s why Andrea and her daughter Natalia came to Buenos Aires from faraway Mendoza. When asked by Prensa Latina why they traveled so far, her mother stated: “Because he’s the music of my life. Because I’ve been listening to Silvio since I was young. We lived in a small town where we didn’t have electricity. So music played on a small drum-powered player was the daily sound.”
“My daughters listened to Silvio. They grew up doing it.” Andrea recalled, adding, “Silvio is the revolution. His songs convey love; they made me a better person.”
Her daughter, Natalia, is studying flute at a conservatory in Mendoza. And was chosen to attend a master class taught by Niurka González, a flutist and clarinetist in the musical group that accompanies the troubadour, on Thursday evening.
“It was very exciting to come from Mendoza, traveling so many hours to meet the teacher. She is incredible, very sweet; she gave us spectacular classes. She was there from three in the afternoon until eight-thirty at night. Listening with so much love and passion to each of the students.” The young woman from Mendoza shared with Prensa Latina.

“It was a tremendous opportunity. I’m still excited and very grateful. It was a beautiful meeting, facilitated by our teachers, thanks to public education. It was a moment of great learning and emotion,” Natalia described.
And mother and daughter agree, “Well, hearing Silvio and the teacher speak now is going to be an incredible thing too. So it’s been very beautiful; it was worth traveling so far.”
It was the second of three performances scheduled at the modern venue in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Villa Crespo. Which for the second night was packed with an audience eager to hear the Cuban Singer. Also who returned to Argentina after seven years as part of a tour of five South American countries.
He began his tour in Chile, is now in Buenos Aires, and then moves to nearby Montevideo to perform on the 17th and 18th at the Antel Arena. He returns to the Argentine capital for a third performance on Tuesday the 21st. Then continues the tour in Peru and Colombia.
In the packed stadium with a capacity for 15,000 spectators, unforgettable songs such as ” Hummingbird Wing,” ” I dream about snakes,” ” I forgive you,” “Yolanda,” “Eva,” ” Song of the Chosen,” ” I will love you,” ” The era is giving birth to a heart,” ” Angel for an Ending,” “The Fool,” “Song of the Chairs,” and “Cloud Tail” ” fluttered once again.
Silvio added new pieces from his album “I wanted to know,” including “That’s coming” and ” Our after.” The singer-songwriter said goodbye for the time being to cross the Río de la Plata to perform in Montevideo and then return for a third concert on Tuesday the 21st.
