Felton 1 Failure Increases Nighttime Peak Deficit to 1,750 MW

Service was affected 24 hours a day this Saturday and remained affected throughout the early hours of Sunday, reported Electrical Union. The maximum impact due to generation capacity deficit on October 11th was 1,584 MW at 7:00 PM.

The source adds that energy production from the 32 new solar photovoltaic parks was 2,443 MWh. With 318 MW as the maximum power delivered during the average power schedule with this generation source.

SEN availability at 6:00 AM was 1,480 MW, and demand was 2,520 MW. Also with 1,029 MW affected by capacity deficits. During the average power schedule, an impact of 1,300 MW is estimated.

Futhermore Unit 8 of the Mariel Power Plant, Units 1 and 2 of the Felton Power Plant. Unit 3 of the Renté Power Plant are out of service. Unit 2 of the Santa Cruz Power Plant and Unit 4 of the Cienfuegos Power Plant are undergoing maintenance.

Thermal generation limitations are 422 MW.

Forty-seven distributed generation plants, with 285 MW, are out of service due to fuel shortages. Moreover 327 MW are unavailable due to a lack of lubricant, for a total of 612 MW.

Finally with this forecast, peak-hour availability of 1,570 MW and peak demand of 3,250 MW are estimated. Resulting in a deficit of 1,680 MW. Therefore, if conditions continue, a 1,750 MW impact is forecast during this time.
