From October 10th to 20th, Holguin will celebrate Cuban Culture Day. With a varied program hosted by the province’s cultural institutions.
The event will open on October 10th with a gala at the Alex Urquiola Provincial Library. Led by artistic director Fermín López, and featuring the Codanza, La Campana, and Guiñol troupes.
Holguin’s 14 Art Instructor Units will be involved in the event, with activities in the municipalities of Rafael Freyre, Sagua de Tanamo, and Gibara. Also meetings with the newly formed art instructors.
Due to the results achieved this year, Holguin will host the national celebration of the 21st anniversary of the José Martí Brigade of Art Instructors from October 18th to 21st. This event will bring together the Brigade’s 16 provincial presidents to celebrate and exchange experiences.
Since October, the Provincial Film Center has been celebrating its centennial and continues with the programming of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC). Screening works by figures such as Alfredo Guevara and Tomás Gutiérrez Alea. In addition to the premiere of the film “El Camino.”
The Provincial Center for Visual Arts will inaugurate an exhibition of the Rapé project at the Pernik Hotel. In addition to the presentation of the documentaries “La Fuerza Viene de Todos,” dedicated to Holguin-based visual artist José Leyva Azze. And “Remolinos,” a film celebrating the institution’s 30th anniversary.
Holguin music will continue to feature regular spaces hosted by troubadours Fernando Cabreja and Lianet Velázquez at the Center for Cultural Development. The event will also include a “Remembrance” space dedicated to senior citizens and an exhibition commemorating Fidel’s centennial.
The four art education centers in the province will host concerts, visual arts exhibitions, lectures, and discussions. At their locations about the role of vocal groups and national and Holguin identity.
In the “Verse by Verse” space, sponsored by the Alex Urquiola Provincial Library. A discussion will be held on the life and work of Benny Moré. While the Provincial Cultural Heritage Center will host panels on the contributions of Holguin culture to national identity.
At the national level, the day will be dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz. The filmmaker Alfredo Guevara, singer Juana Bacallao, photographer Raúl Corrales, and the Matamoros Trio. And in Holguin, to the 35th anniversary of the Son Festival in Mayari. The 100th anniversary of the founding of the Cine Marti, the life and work of historians Ángel Peña Obregón and Hiram Pérez Concepción, and the 21st anniversary of the José Martí Brigade of Art Instructors.
Every year, Holguin’s cultural institutions come together to celebrate and honor the first singing of the National Anthem, La Bayamesa, composed by Perucho Figueredo on October 20th, 1868.
