The Pedro Díaz Coello School for Sports Initiation (EIDE in the Spanish acronym) in Holguin began the 2025-2026 academic year. With an approved enrollment of 900 student athletes and the new addition of three municipalities hosting preparation for six sports.
Kirenia Rivero, the school’s director, noted that during this academic year, they have an educational teaching unit. In the municipality of Banes with swimming, skating, and Basque pelota. In “Calixto Garcia,” they will host baseball and softball, both for girls. And in Baguanos, field hockey for boys.
This decision benefits Holguin residents from participating in sports scheduled for the School Games. But without enrollment, points are lost and ultimately contribute to the overall results.
At the last school competition, an event that brings together the Cuban elite of sports. The delegation from this province finished in eleventh place among the cadets. With 277 points, and ninth among the juniors, with 285 points.
The most notable highlights of the event’s closing ceremony included the selection of the Holguin EIDE. As one of the most prominent venues and its designation to host the opening ceremony of the 64th edition of the School Games.
Our province will host badminton, karate, and the women’s soccer final. Work is also underway to prepare a budget for the repair of the pool complex. Which will allow it to host the water polo competition.
The Pedro Díaz Coello EIDE will celebrate its 50th anniversary on September 5th of next year. And since then, it has been the main training and preparation base for Holguin athletes, both in the school and youth categories.
