The return of Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez is sparking great enthusiasm in Chile. Where he will perform four concerts starting September 29th at the Movistar Arena. Which has a capacity of 17,000 spectators and has been sold out for several months.
After a seven-year absence, Silvio returns to this country as part of a Latin American tour, beginning on the steps of the University of Havana. And continuing through Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, and Colombia.
Although he initially planned two concerts on September 29th and October 1st. He had to schedule two more for October 5th and 6th after tickets for his performances sold out in just a few hours.
The author of well-known songs such as Ojalá, Te doy una canción, and La Maza. They will offer a repertoire that will include everything from his most iconic pieces to those from his recent album Quiero saber.
In this reunion with the Chilean public, Silvio will be accompanied by four local musicians who will open the show each night: Manuel García, Illapu, Patricio Anabalón, and Nano Stern.
Chile was the first Latin American country the Cuban singer-songwriter visited in 1972, during Salvador Allende’s government. After the 1973 coup d’état, he was unable to return until the return to democracy in 1990.
In March of that year, he gave a concert at the National Stadium. Which drew an audience of some 80,000. Since then, he has made several visits to Chile, most recently in 2018.
Now he returns to the country’s stages accompanied by the group Trovarroco (Rachid López and Maikel Elizarde). Niurka González on flute and clarinet. Oliver Valdés on drums and percussion. Jorge Reyes on double bass. Jorge Aragón on piano; and Emilio Vega on vibraphone.
