The 13th Ordinary Plenary Session of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba began this Friday with a solemn ceremony. The Committee members, led by Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the PCC Central Committee and First Secretary of the Provincial Committee.
Also Manuel Hernández Aguilera, Governor at that level, signed the document of support for the brotherly people of Venezuela. In the face of the threat of aggression from the U.S. government.
First, the agreements reached from the last plenary session held in April-August were reviewed. As well as the Provincial Bureau’s completion of a broad commemorative program. Honoring the centennial of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
Moreover one of the key aspects discussed at the plenary session was the evaluation of the work of political and mass organizations, agricultural and other organizations in the sugarcane program.
Yoania Merencio, coordinator of AZCUBA, spoke about the ongoing efforts to recover the sugar sector in the coming years. Also about the upcoming competition, which will feature the Fernando de Dios sugar mill in the town of Tacajo, scheduled to begin grinding around January 10th, 2026.
Meanwhile, the provincial governor addressed the achievement of the province’s economic indicators. Starting with the poor results of the sugar sector, with difficulties in cane planting, and sugar production. Futhermore where efforts are recognized, but concrete results are needed.
Workers are migrating to other sectors of the non-state economy. So better care for people is needed, the governor added.
Queipo, speaking on the subject of the sugar harvest, stated that 30 years after the great harvest of 1996. On the occasion of Fidel Castro’s visit to Holguin, the commitment is to have a better harvest in the year of the centennial of the Commander-in-Chief’s birth.
Regarding other economic aspects, a plan to increase honey and tobacco collection has been approved. By next year, 36 exportable products should be available and physical production should be increased.
Finally, considering the process of strengthening the work of the PCC, at the proposal of the PCC Central Committee. It was agreed to promote Arelis Marrero Guerrero, who has 16 years of extensive experience in the Party, to the auxiliary structure of the Central Committee.
Promote comrade Alexis Mejías Céspedes to the position of member of the Bureau for Political and Ideological Work. Likewise, Jorge Ocaña Calviño will be appointed to the position of member of the Bureau for Economic and Productive Work. He has experience working as secretary of the PCC in Sagua de Tanamo. From the UJC to the PCC, and has a solid ideological background.
Queipo, in the conclusions of the plenary session, expressed that we are in special circumstances. The defense of peace and the dignity of the people are not negotiable. He reaffirmed his commitment to continue moving forward, opting to host the 26th of July in 2026. Fulfilling the celebrations for Fidel Castro’s centennial.
