Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero expressed his gratitude this Tuesday for Brazil’s support against the blockade imposed by the United States. Describing it as the main obstacle to the island’s development.
During the opening of the first High-Level Meeting “Public Policies for Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security” in Havana. The minister explained the impact of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade on agriculture.
Marrero explained that from March 2024 to February 2025, “this genocidal policy caused estimated damages of $7.556 billion. Representing an increase of 49 percent compared to the previous period.”
In the agricultural sector alone, the head of government explained, losses amounted to $932,316,224, resulting in a decrease in food production. Due to the lack of access to inputs, raw materials, fertilizers, machinery, fuels, chemicals, and new technologies.
Also Marrero noted that in the coming days, Cuba will once again present the report “Need to End the Economic, Commercial, and Financial Blockade. Imposed by the United States of America Against Cuba” to the United Nations General Assembly.
“We are convinced,” he stated, “that once again the Caribbean country will receive the overwhelming support of the international community, of which Brazil is a member.” The Prime Minister emphasized that the support of the South American giant reaffirms the close ties of brotherhood, solidarity, and cooperation that historically unite both nations.
Regarding the high-level forum on Food Sovereignty, he expressed confidence that it will contribute to the coordination of joint projects. And the identification of new areas of bilateral cooperation. The head of government also thanked the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for its collaboration in organizing the event.
At another point in his speech, Marrero explained that currently, under the guidance of the Government Program to Correct Distortions and Re-Boost the Economy. The nation is working on productive programs, prioritizing the harvest of rice and other grains, with the goal of import substitution.
