Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, described the Fourth National Exercise to Prevent and Combat Crime in a working meeting as an opportunity to strengthen public peace and social discipline in the country.
According to the website of the Presidency of the Republic, the president emphasized that the initiative, launched this past Monday throughout the country, allows for the consolidation of previous experiences and progress in the battle against corruption, drugs, illegal activities, and social indiscipline, considered priorities of the partisan work.
Díaz-Canel emphasized the need to increase cohesion between institutions and the population in order to guarantee stability, respect for internal order, and participation in the nation’s main tasks. The head of state indicated that the fight against crime should focus on crimes that threaten people’s lives and the functioning of society, including acts of violence, robbery, and theft that affect homes, communities, and productive sectors.
He also mentioned the urgency of addressing crimes against the economy, such as the theft of electrical cables, transformers, and batteries, and indicated that the executives of the entities involved should strengthen internal prevention and control measures.
The President called for the constant updating of response plans in state institutions to avoid improvisation and guarantee effective responses to each criminal act.
Among the prioritized issues, he highlighted violence against women, tax evasion, and administrative corruption, matters that, he said, require systematic analysis at all levels of management.
The national exercise includes training activities, security plan reviews, and inter-institutional coordination, with the goal of increasing effectiveness in preventing and addressing negative social manifestations.
The experience of the IV National Exercise against Crime will contribute to consolidating social discipline and strengthening citizen confidence in the State’s ability to guarantee public safety, he added.
