Cuba Celebrates 20 Years of the Henry Reeve International Contingent

The Henry Reeve International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics celebrates today its twentieth anniversary of unconditional dedication to health and life in the most needy corners of the planet.

Dr. José Ángel Portal Miranda, Cuba’s Minister of Public Health, expressed on the social media platform X: “The Henry Reeve Contingent celebrates another anniversary this Friday: 20 years of unconditional commitment to health and life.”

He also extended congratulations from the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) to those who make Fidel Castro Ruz’s (1926-2016) dream a reality and defend the essence of Cuban Public Health throughout the world.

Official data from MINSAP confirms that the Henry Reeve Contingent was founded on September 19th, 2005. At the initiative of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and is a symbol of Cuban medical internationalism. Providing assistance in more than 40 countries affected by natural disasters, epidemics, and health crises.

In these 20 years, the source reaffirms, its members have led some of the greatest humanitarian achievements in defense of life. Such as the fight against Ebola in West Africa, earthquake relief in Pakistan and Haiti, and support during the COVID-19 pandemic in various regions of the world.
