Cubs have won six consecutive games in the National Series

The Holguin Cubs earned their sixth consecutive victory and ninth in the 64th edition of the National Baseball Series by defeating the Villa Clara Leopards 10-2 on Tuesday in the opening game of the tournament.

It was the first win for left-hander Uberleydis Estévez (1-1). Sarting five innings in which he had two singles, one earned run, two strikeouts, and three walks.
Moreover the Holguin Cubs, who scored in six of their nine innings, hit 11 hits. Including four home runs, to reach 12, and committed two errors.

At the Augusto César Sandino stadium in Santa Clara, Yasiel González (2-5) and Lázaro Cedeño (1-2, 2 RBI) hit their third home runs. While Edward Magaña (3-5, 2B, 2 RBI) and Nelson Batista (1-4, 3 RBI) hit their first home runs. Ernesto Torres (2-4, RBI) also stood out for the visiting team.

The Villa Clara team only managed four hits, including Cristian Moré’s (2-4) first home run. The loss went to Omar David Pérez (2-0), who allowed six hits in 3 2/3 innings. Allowed five runs, four earned, struck out two, and walked three to first.

On the same day, the Matanzas Crocodiles maintained their lead in the standings with their ninth consecutive win, defeating the Mayabeque Hurricanes 11-4.
The Las Tunas Lumberjacks defeated the Granma Alazanes 4-3 at the Mártires de Barbados Stadium. Alfredo Despaigne hit his fourth home run of the tournament for Granma.

Meanwhile, the Santiago de Cuba Wasps also stayed in the game, defeating the Guantanamo Indians 16-7 at the Nguyen Van Troi Stadium, earning their fourth consecutive victory. Veteran Edilse Silva homered for the Santiago team, while Robert Luis Delgado and Biorgelvis Roque homered for the home team.

In other matches, the Cienfuegos Elephants thrived at their 5 de Septiembre Stadium, defeating the Sancti Spiritus Roosters 9-2. With a victory for Hermes Gonzáles and a home run by Erisbel Arruebarrena.

Finally, the Camagüey Bulls knocked out the Ciego de Avila Tigers 12-0. The duel between Pinar del Rio and Artemisa was rained out when the Cazadores were leading 4-0 in the sixth inning. While the Industriales-Isla de la Juventud match, scheduled for Cristóbal Labra Stadium, was postponed due to bad weather.

After these results, the series leaders are: 1- Matanzas (10-1); 2- Artemisa (6-1); 3-, 4-, and 5- Holguin, Santiago, and Las Tunas (9-2); 6-7- S. S. Spiritus and Camagüey (7-4); and 8- Industriales (6-4).

This Wednesday, starting at 2:00 pm, the twelfth games of the series and the second of the third home matches will take place.
