After the turbine was shut down and the area of a crack in one of the generator coils was identified, causing a hydrogen leak. The most sensitive maintenance work began this Sunday at Unit 1 of the Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Company: sealing the damaged conduit.
Engineer Eric Milanés Quinzán, general director of the plant located in Felton, in the Holguin municipality of Mayari. Assured that all work is on schedule, including cleaning the boiler’s convective shaft.
Moreover cleaning the turbine steam condenser, repairing high-pressure heater 1, cleaning the regenerative air heaters, and maintaining pumps and auxiliary equipment are among the work performed so far at the Felton Thermoelectric Plant.
Among the most tedious tasks are the removal of waste fuel burned in the boiler and the cleaning of the hopper, actions undertaken by workers from the Engineering Construction Company No. 3 (ECI 3).
Also participating in the actions are specialized forces from the Power Plant Maintenance Company (EMCE), personnel from the thermoelectric plant itself. Support brigades from the Nickel Union Services Company in Nicaro (ESUNI).
This maintenance, with an estimated duration of 20 days, is expected to return the load of unit one to over 230 megawatts, which will significantly increase generating capacity.
Futhermore since the start of maintenance operations following the unexpected shutdown of the Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Plant at midnight on September 5th. Its management has assured that the priority is to efficiently and safely complete each task so that the plant can be reinstated in a stable manner into the National Electric System.
