The 31st edition of the Visual Arts Salon opened at the Provincial Center for Plastic Arts (CPAP) in Holguin with the competition awards.
The Grand Prize went to artist Yosvani Rodríguez Batista for his work “Fragments of Reality.” According to the jury, among the competing works, the winning piece stood out for its subtlety and use of engraving from an installation perspective.

In addition to his happiness with the award, Yosvani Rodríguez shared his pride in seeing students from the El Alba Regional Academy of Plastic Arts recognized in the competition. This is the case with student Yojany González Martínez, who received a special mention for his work “Honey-Colored Girls in Pastel Pink.”
Artist Luis Silva Silva received a special mention for his series “Meriendas” for the quality achieved by integrating natural elements within a contemporary language, which enriches and enhances the final result.
As part of the collateral awards, artists Katerin Machin Malcolm, José Emilio Leyva Azze, and Aníbal de la Torre Cruz were recognized by the Caguayo Foundation for Monumental and Applied Arts. The Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets (FCBC), and the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).
This year’s exhibition features a special dedication to the platform provided by social media; and a jury comprised of Marilyn Sampera Rosado, curator of the Center for the Development of Visual Arts; Juan Luis Maceo Núñez, a visual artist from Granma with a background in sculpture. And Karell Maldonado O’Ryan, a visual artist and professor at the El Alba Regional Academy of Plastic Arts.
During its first few days, the center hosted several important spaces for dialogue, one of which featured Santiago-born artist Alejandro Lescay, who offered a discussion commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Caguayo Foundation for Monumental and Applied Arts. An organization that serves as an example throughout the country for creating spaces where artists can realize their dreams.
Moreover the 31st edition of the Salon will close this Saturday, September 13th, in the Electa Arenal Hall of the CPAP (Central American Population Fund) with the solo exhibition “Inside” by Santiago-born photographer Renato Alejandro Arza Planas, who is one of this year’s special guests.
