After the halt caused by the National Electric System outage, the National Baseball Series resumes this Friday with doubleheaders starting at 10:00 a.m.
Therefore, the Holguin Cubs and the Guantanamo Indians will face each other at the scheduled time at the Mayor General Calixto García Stadium. Where they played their first game last Tuesday with a close 7-6 victory for the home team.
The Holguin Cubs began the tournament as home team against the Granma Alazanes, defeating them in three of five matches.
The Cubs’ roster features Lázaro Cedeño, who has a .412 batting average, seven hits, including a double and two home runs, and five RBIs.
Other Holguin natives who are excelling with the bat are Luis Raúl Domínguez (AVE 333) and Edward Magaña (AVE 300 and 4 2B, co-leader).
The home team’s victories came from the mound through starters Wilson Paredes and Carlos Alberto Santiesteban. And relievers José Antonio Sánchez and Michel Cabrera, the latter also earning two saves.
Santiesteban didn’t allow a run in five innings in his only outing so far. Allowing only three hits, with three strikeouts and two walks.
The Series standings are dominated by Matanzas, Sancti Spiritus, and Santiago de Cuba, all with five wins and one loss. Then come Industriales (4-1), Artemisa (3-1), Holguin, and Las Tunas (4-2). Finally are Pinar del Rio, Granma, and Camagüey, all tied at 3-3.
