The province of Holguin is guaranteeing electricity to priority circuits that include hospitals, food processing centers, and pumping systems for water supply. Through microsystems following the disconnection of the National Electric System (SEN in the Spanish acronym ) this Wednesday.
With 18 percent of customers receiving service, corresponding to 25 circuits served by the Holguin 220 kV, Nipe, and Moa fuel site microsystems. Authorities are taking steps to restore power generation and reduce the impact on the population. Ruber Reynaldo González, provincial director of the Electric Company, told CNA.
After the SEN went down, they prioritized activating islands to power the main medical facilities. Including the Octavio de la Concepción y la Pedraja Children’s Hospital, the Military Hospital, the Lucía Íñiguez Clinical and Surgical Hospital. And the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University Teaching Hospital, all in the main municipality.
Among the municipalities with partial power are Sagua de Tanamo, Moa, Holguin, Mayari, and Baguano.
The executive added that, with unit one of the Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Plant in Felton undergoing maintenance since September 6th due to a transformer failure that brought forward its scheduled shutdown. The possibility of increasing supply in the northeastern region until a stable connection with the SEN is achieved is diminished.
