Companies in Holguin Sign Ozone Layer Protection Agreement

The signing of the voluntary declaration for the substitution of polluting gases by 76 companies in the province of Holguin stands out. Among the regional achievements in protecting the ozone layer. Whose international commemoration is celebrated on September 16th.

She highlighted that 29 entities received the National Award for Ozone-Depleting Substances-Free. Awarded by Citma between 2020 and 2024, and another seven will receive it this year on the occasion of the anniversary.

These results position the province among the most relevant in this indicator in Cuba and prioritize the development of refrigeration equipment. That requires these gases for operation in hospitals, hotels, and industries. As well as alternatives aimed at replacing them, the specialist noted.

Ochoa Aguilera, head of the Department of Environmental Instruments and Policy, added that the province is holding a broad program of activities to commemorate the date. Including courses on good refrigeration practices for students in technical and vocational education and personnel linked to this field.

Children and young people also participate in environmental sanitation workshops, tree planting, raw material collection, children’s contests, community festivals, and other educational activities.

Also the World Ozone Day was established by the United Nations to raise awareness among the world’s population. About the preservation of the blue gas and promote global measures to reduce harmful agents to the Earth’s protective shield.

This year in Cuba, the date commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Ozone Technical Unit. Also highlights the virtual contest “Otoz, 30 Years Protecting the Ozone Layer” in the drawing, poetry, short story, audiovisual, and comic categories.
