Felton Thermoelectric Plant Exits the National Electric System

Unit 1 of the Lidio Ramón Thermoelectric Plant (CTE) (Felton), in the eastern province of Holguin, faces an unscheduled shutdown starting yesterday. Which has caused it to exit the National Electric System (SEN).

Eric Milanes Quinzán, general director of the plant, located in the Holguin municipality of Mayari, confirmed to the Cuban News Agency that a failure in the plant’s transformer brought forward the unit’s shutdown, which was scheduled for next Monday.

It was explained that Felton will be out of service for 20 days, a period that will be used to perform a series of maintenance tasks. Including a deep cleaning of the boiler and condenser, to ensure their stability once reinstated.

In addition to units 1 and 2 of the Lidio Ramón Thermoelectric Plant, unit 3 of the Santa Cruz Power Plant, unit 5 of the Nuevitas Power Plant, and units 3 and 5 of the Renté Power Plant are experiencing outages.

Unit 2 of the Santa Cruz Power Plant and units 3 and 4 of the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Power Plant in Cienfuegos are undergoing maintenance.
Due to thermal limitations, 310 MW are out of service, and 40 distributed generation plants are affected by a 197 MW shortage due to fuel shortages.

In addition, 450 MW are unavailable due to a lack of lubricants, for a total of 647 MW unavailable for these reasons.

The Electricity Union forecast a power outage of 1,350 megawatts (MW) by noon this Saturday, and for peak demand hours. An availability of 1,665 MW and a demand of 3,500 MW, which will result in a deficit of 1,835 MW and a power outage of 1,905 MW.
