President Miguel Díaz-Canel affirmed today that the Cuban government maintains priority attention to the critical situation of the electricity generation system. Especially in the eastern region, where progress is being made in gradually restoring service.
In a message posted on social media, the head of state highlighted the sustained efforts of the workers of the Electric Union, whom he thanked for their work.
“Upon returning to #Cuba, we are closely monitoring the critical situation with electricity generation and the gradual restoration of service in the eastern region, thanks to the workers of the Electric Union,” the president wrote on X, adding that “the issue has been a priority in all our discussions during the tour of Asia.”
The day before, a shot on a 220 kV power line caused the disconnection of the National Electricity System (SEN) from the province of Las Tunas to Guantanamo, in the eastern part of the country. According to reports from the Ministry of Energy and Mines on social media, the electrical system was restored in the affected areas at 1:25 a.m. local time.
The ministry’s Director of Electricity, Lázaro Guerra, explained on national television that the SEN power outage was due to adverse weather conditions in the area.
Cuba is immersed in a strategy for electricity recovery, one of the key elements of which is achieving energy sovereignty in the shortest possible time. The goal is to meet the needs of the population and the economy, rehabilitate the grid. Also find solutions for emergency generators, and advance the energy transition.
