Cubs aim to win their first game in the National Series

The Holguin Cubs, with a 2-1 record, will look for at least a victory against the Granma Alazanes on Saturday and Sunday at Calixto García Stadium to secure the first game of the 64th National Baseball Series.

The Holguin Cubs won 6-0 on Tuesday with a home run shared by Wilson Paredes and Michel Cabrera and a home run by Lázaro Cedeño. They repeated their victory on Thursday, 4-2, with a solo home run by Carlos Santiesteban. Cabrera’s second save, and Cedeño’s second home run.

On Wednesday, the Granma Cubs won 6-2, with Yunier Castillo’s personal credit, despite a home run by Luis Miguel Santiesteban.

In these first three games, the Cubs are batting .255 (24 for 94) with four doubles, three home runs, and 12 RBIs. While their pitchers are batting .228 (21 for 92) with one double and two home runs, and their earned run average (ERA) is 2.08 (6 ERA in 26.0 ERA).

For the games this Saturday and Sunday, Holguin will rely on right-hander Luis Cáser and left-hander Uberleydis Estévez, while Granma will have right-handers Yoel Mojena and Alexei Ricardo.

In this series opener, the teams of Santiago de Cuba (3-0) and Artemisa (1-0) are undefeated, while Holguin, Sancti Spiritus, Camagüey, Industriales, and Las Tunas all have 2-1 records. Cienfuegos, Granma, Guantanamo, Pinar del Rio, and Villa Clara (1-2) are next; and Mayabeque (0-1) and Isla de la Juventud (0-3) are at the bottom of the table.

After their match with Granma, the Holguin Cubs will remain as hosts at Calixto García Stadium to host the Guantanamo Indians.
