Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel met this Thursday in Shenzhen, China, with businessmen from some 77 Chinese corporations interested in establishing or expanding their presence in Cuba.
The president addressed the businessmen to express Cuba’s commitment to openness and urged them to actively participate in building a community. With a shared future between the two countries, primarily in matters related to economic relations.
Díaz-Canel expressed his admiration and respect for China and praised the Asian giant’s ability to increasingly open its doors to countries in the Global South amid a scenario marked by uncertainty.
He recalled that Cuba and China are celebrating 65 years of diplomatic relations this year. Characterized by high political trust, mutual support for each other’s fundamental interests, and consensus-building on international issues.
He quoted Chinese President Xi Jinping, who described bilateral ties as an ironclad friendship.
In this regard, he mentioned the consensus reached in recent years. Aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries, the cornerstone of which is interparty relations.
Díaz-Canel emphasized the existence of new business modalities for cooperation with Cuba and mentioned some of the priority sectors for investment. Such as food production, energy, cybersecurity, and development in these areas.
The president once again denounced the negative impact of the United States’ economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba. Which has been intensified in recent years with new sanctions that directly impact the country’s socioeconomic development.
The president is carrying out an agenda here today that also includes visits to sites of historical interest and technology Parks. Also as well as talks with top officials from the government and the Communist Party of Guangdong Province.
The Cuban president arrived in Shenzhen from Beijing, where he met with his host counterpart, Xi Jinping, participated in the Victory Day military parade, and co-chaired the ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng.

Xi Jinping emphasized that, in the context of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the occasion should be seized to elevate bilateral ties to a new level and better benefit both peoples.
He affirmed that China will continue to support Cuba’s economic and social development within its capabilities and firmly back its fight against the blockade and interference.
The Cuban president expressed his country’s willingness to expand bilateral cooperation. Promote the high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and provide a favorable investment environment for Chinese companies.
Díaz-Canel concludes his second stop here tomorrow on a tour of Asia that previously took him to Vietnam and will end in Laos.
