The UN meteorological agency reported that, although its return is expected this month, the cooling climate phenomenon known as The Girl will not halt global warming caused by human activity.
It noted that there is a high probability that The Girl will return between September and November. But temperatures are expected to remain above normal.
Data shared by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) shows that nearly 90 percent of the excess heat from global warming is stored in the ocean. Making this heat content a critical indicator of climate change.
It also indicates a 55 percent chance that sea surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific will cool to The Girl levels between September and November.
According to the UN agency, there is a lower probability (45 percent) that Pacific temperatures will remain as they have been in the past six months. When neither the cooling The Girl nor its counterpart, the warming The Boy, caused peaks.
The WMO noted that for the period October-December 2025, the probability of The Girl conditions increases slightly to around 60 percent.
Meanwhile, there is little chance of The Boy developing between September and December, according to the WMO update.
