Fernando de Dios’ team enjoys its twelfth provincial softball crown

The Fernando de Dios sugar company team from Tacajo, in the municipality of Baguanos, defeated Loynaz Hechavarría from Marcane, Cueto. Twice on the road, 7-2 and 9-6, to win 4-1 in the final and claim its twelfth provincial crown in the Sugar league of Baseball.

In the first game, each team managed 12 hits, including a home run. But Yusmel Velázquez managed to control the opposing teams’ skirmishes and took the win over Juan Luis Matos.

For the winners, Maikel Rivas (3-2, 2 RBI) and Reynier Morales (3-2, HR) stood out on offense. While for the losers, Osbel Sosa (2-2, HR) and Yoan Lázaro (4-2, 1 RBI) stood out.

In the decisive match, also heavy on offense, the winners connected on 14 hits, one more than their rivals. The smile went to Juan José Revé, in relief, and the grimace to Léster Caballero.

For the new champions, Reynier Morales (4-3, HR, 2 RBI), Maikel Rivas (3-2, HR), Magdiel Columbié (3-1, HR), and Eddy García (3-2, 2 RBI) shone on the aluminum. For the runners-up, Osbel Sosa (4-3, HR), Javier Guzmán (4-3, 1 RBI), and Víctor García (3-2, RBI) stood out.

The provincial final softball, scheduled for seven matches in a best-in-four format, began at the Delfín Fuentes Cano stadium in Tacajo. Where Fernando de Dios won 7-2, with Reynier Guerrero taking the lead. Loynaz Hechavarría then rallied 6-5, with Álvaro Cobas taking the lead.

Moreover at the Marcane stadium, the champion team won all three matches needed to secure the title, by Super KO of 20-1 with Yusmel in the box, and then finished off with 7-2 and 9-6 wins.

Now, the Tacajo team will begin the eastern phase of the softball tournament against the always difficult Arquímedes Colina team from Mabay, in Bayamo, Granma province.
