Holguin residents demonstrate solidarity with the Venezuelan people

Amid growing international tension, Simón Bolívar Park in the city of Holguin became the scene of an act of solidarity with Venezuela this Saturday. Where provincial authorities and citizens denounced US military threats and reaffirmed the right of Latin American peoples to self-determination.

The event, aligned with the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, combined political speeches and cultural expressions. It was organized by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) and local authorities. It responded to the recent deployment of US warships near Venezuelan Waters. An action described as a “violation of regional peace and a resurgence of colonial practices.”

Also this event not only reflects Cuba’s official stance on geopolitical tensions, but also demonstrates the coordination between government institutions and civil society in the defense of regional sovereignty.

Lupe Isabel, Icap delegate in Holguin, highlighted the extraterritorial nature of the threats: “The presence of US warships is a direct affront to the sovereignty of Venezuela and all of Latin America.”

Moreover Dr. Eysi Infante Pérez, representing Cuban doctors who have served on internationalist missions in the sister nation. Emphasized the legacy of leaders such as Hugo Chávez and Fidel Castro: “Regional integration is the only way to resist external pressures. We health workers defend solidarity as the cornerstone against imperialism.”

Futhermore the event was attended by Arelis Marrero Guerrero, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and the Provincial Bureau in Holguin, and Manuel Hernández Aguilera, governor of Holguin, who reinforced the institutional message of support for Venezuela.

With a message that underscored the need “not to remain impassive in the face of imperial aggression” and to build “from the social base a future of justice and emancipation.”
