The Ecoarte community project, based in the mining and metallurgical municipality of Moa, is extending environmental education activities in that town as part of the program’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
Melaneo Maden, Ecoarte coordinator, told CNA that the activities contribute to protecting vulnerable ecosystems. Such as beaches and mangroves, threatened by human activity and the adverse effects of climate change.
More than 100 primary, junior high, and pre-university students living in the area are participating in solid waste collection and reforestation activities.
The children are also participating in interest group presentations. Planting endemic species, and conducting environmental education activities in the communities, in collaboration with the Cubaniquel Business Group.
The coordinator explained that the anniversary celebrations include intergenerational meetings, keynote lectures by specialists, and educational talks in the La Melba settlement.
Ecoarte was founded in August 1995 with the goal of engaging younger generations in the protection of nature and providing solutions to problems such as soil degradation, desertification, and water pollution.
Currently, it is the Community Environmental Center of the Cubaniquel Business Group and has been awarded the National Environment and Community Culture Awards and the Rosa’s Shoes distinction.
