Cuban President Expresses Thanks for Vietnam’s Friendship

The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CPC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, expressed his gratitude in Hanoi for Vietnam‘s friendship and example.

Shortly after his arrival in this capital for a three-day official visit, Díaz-Canel wrote on social media: “The welcome in Vietnam has been as warm as its climate and as friendly as its people.”

The Cuban head of state was also impressed by the color and joy that overflowed in the always heroic Hanoi on the 80th anniversary of this great nation’s Declaration of Independence.

“Thank you, Vietnam, for your friendship and example,” he said.
Díaz-Canel announced the day before, via social media, the beginning of official visits to Vietnam, China, and Laos, “sister nations to whom we are bound by deep ties and a history of shared cooperation and solidarity, standing the test of time and the greatest challenges.”

For its part, and in releasing the information, the Cuban Foreign Ministry detailed that, as part of his work program, the Head of State will participate in the commemorative events for the 80th anniversary of the proclamation of independence and founding of the then Democratic Republic of Vietnam in this capital.

In Beijing, he will attend the central event marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Additionally, the official statement added, he will hold meetings with the leading authorities of these countries and visit sites of political and economic interest.

The visits to Vietnam and China are of special significance, as they are framed within the context of the 65th anniversary of the historic relations of brotherhood, solidarity, and cooperation between our countries, the Cuban Foreign Ministry emphasized.

Meanwhile, in the case of Laos, the priority that Cuba places on fraternal and friendly relations with that sisterly, socialist country is reaffirmed, it added.

In statements to the press here the day before, Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang affirmed that the solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba is boundless and constitutes an exemplary and rare symbol.

Both nations “have walked together through the ups and downs of history,” the diplomat emphasized, recalling President Ho Chi Minh’s words, which remain fully relevant today, when he said that “Vietnam and Cuba are separated by thousands of miles, but the hearts of their people are as close as brothers’ hearts.”
