The Holguin Cubs‘ commitment to qualify for the postseason of the 64th National Baseball Series was reaffirmed by the Holguin Cubs team. At the flag-raising ceremony held at the historic Biran stadium in the municipality of Cueto.
Also the Holguin Cubs’ battle flag, carried by Rafael Castillo González, Pan American champion and a national baseball legend, was received by Arelis Marrero Guerrero, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Provincial Bureau in Holguin. Who presented it to Nelson Batista, team captain.
Futhermore Carlos Alberto Santiesteban, reading the athletes’ oath, expressed the willingness of the coaching staff and players to perform with discipline and dedication in every game with the goal of achieving victory.
Moreover Lugdis Pineda, Nelson Batista, Lázaro Cedeño, Yasiel González, and Carlos Alberto Santiesteban signed the Code of Ethics on behalf of the entire team.
In a special address, Manuel Hernández Aguilera, governor of Holguin, urged the Cubs to be an example on and off the field. Guided by victory as their primary objective and respecting the referees’ decisions.
Also the Holguin Cubs will debut next Tuesday at the Mayor General Calixto Garcia Stadium, against Granma, and will later host the Guantanamo Indians.
The first away game will be from September 16th to 21st against the Villa Clara Azucareros, at the Augusto Cesar Sandino Stadium.
In conclusion the ceremony is part of the sports activities in the eastern province in honor of the centennial of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.
