Russia develops reagents capable of detecting 25 viruses

Scientists from the Central Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology of the Russian consumer protection agency Rospotrebnadzor have developed reagents capable of detecting 25 viruses, the Sputnik news agency reported Thursday.

According to the published note, the reagent kit created by Russian specialists is very effective. Among the 25 different viruses it detects are influenza and COVID-19, the agency’s press service reported.

Furthermore, the kit can simultaneously detect all major pathogens of acute respiratory viral infections, particularly enteroviruses, adenoviruses, rhinoviruses, metapneumoviruses, respiratory syncytial virus, and bocaviruses.

“This is the first test registered in Russia with such a wide range of diagnostics,” the statement states. Emphasizing that the testing system is highly accurate and allows doctors to quickly make a diagnosis and prescribe treatment.

All test components are produced in Russia, eliminating dependence on foreign supplies and making diagnostics accessible to the public.
