AHS Announces 2026 Calendar Awards

The Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) announces today the 2026 Calendar Awards. Seeking to encourage literary creation among young Cuban writers residing in the country.

The competition, co-sponsored by the Cuban Book Institute and the Abril Publishing House. Includes the genres of poetry (including décima), children’s and young adult literature (poetry), theater, science fiction (including heroic fantasy and fantastic horror), narrative (novel), and essay.

According to the competition rules, writers up to 35 years of age are eligible to participate. Whether or not they are members of the AHS, and who have not previously received the award in the genre they are competing in.

Works must be between 50 and 80 pages in length for poetry and science fiction. Between 30 and 80 pages in length for children’s and young adult literature (poetry) and theater, and between 50 and 100 pages in length for essays and narrative (short stories).

The call adds that books must be unpublished and can be submitted before October 31st, 2025. To the email address becasypremiosahs@gmail.com. Specifying the genre in which the competition is being held in the subject line.

Contestants must attach their proposal in Word format with a pseudonym (PDF files will not be accepted).

A single prize per genre will be awarded, consisting of an accredited diploma, 25,000 Cuban pesos. The publication of the work in the AHS Calendar collection and the Abril Publishing House. With the corresponding copyright payment.

The jury’s decision will be final, and the results will be announced at an event at the 2026 Havana International Book Fair.
