Félix Puentes’ bronze medal in the eight-oar coxed boat was the only medal earned by the Holguin eight participating in the Junior Pan American Games, held from August 9th to 23rd in Asunción, Paraguay.
Puentes was part of the men’s eight-oar coxed boat that took the bronze medal in Asunción Bay. With a time of 5:45:96 minutes, a race won by Chile.
Also participating in the rowing event was Mayarícara’s Ana Laura Jiménez, who finished ninth and last in the individual competition. In addition to finishing fifth in the four-oared sculls and the mixed eight-oared coxed boat.
Fifteen-year-old Lizbeth Godales came very close to qualifying for the finals in the rhythmic gymnastics clubs. Where she achieved a score of 20.800 points, just 0.750 points away from advancing to the top eight.
Likewise, in athletics, Elier Martínez finished seventh in the 10,000 meters, with a time of 31:52:3 minutes. Javier Noris (javelin) and Calet Durán (pole vault) did not participate.
Regarding the other results for Holguin representatives, libero Yamilena Ruiz finished fifth along with the women’s volleyball team; taekwondo athlete Elianet Crespo (+67 kg) was seventh; while divers Anais Negret finished ninth in the 10-meter platform and fourth and last in the synchronized diving event; and Melany Zaldívar placed thirteenth in the one-meter springboard.
