Holguin concluded its participation in the 61st National High-Performance School Sports Games far from what it should have achieved, as it is the fourth most populated province in Cuba.
Information provided by Ramón Ají Fariñas, head of the national school sports department. States that among cadets, the Holguin representatives finished in a lagging eleventh place with 277 points.
No first place overall was achieved in this category; participation in 10 disciplines was dropped. Among the best results were second places in artistic gymnastics and pentathlon. As well as fourth places in cycling, diving, softball (women), tennis, and sailing.
Among the juniors, the final position is somewhat better, but a ninth place (285 points) is not a result to celebrate. The Holguin delegation did not participate in 11 sports.

Overall podium finishes were achieved in rhythmic gymnastics and pentathlon (first places). Sailing and cycling (second), and diving (third). Chess, fencing, and artistic gymnastics finished in the quarterfinals, while judo placed fifth.
In the category for people with disabilities, with participation in three of the five disciplines. They achieved seventh place overall with 40 points. By discipline, badminton was third, judo fifth, and athletics eleventh.
The decline was confirmed in the Pioneer Cups, where Holguin took thirteenth place with 133 points. However, handball (first), artistic gymnastics (second), tennis (fourth), judo (fifth), and taekwondo (sixth) stood out.
Today, it is urgent to develop a strategy to reverse this situation so that, in the coming years, Holguin returns to the spotlight, from where it should never have left.
