Cuba in Asunción: Gold, Silver, and Bronze in Canoeing

Cuba won gold, silver, and bronze medals today in the first finals of the closing day of the canoeing and kayaking events at the 2nd Pan American Games in Asunción 2025, held in the bay of that Paraguayan city.

Gold went to Diorgina Castillo and Yinnolis Franchesca López in the C-2 500 meters, with a time of 2:24.33 minutes.
The silver and bronze medals were awarded in the C-2 500 meters and the K-2 500 meters, with times of 2:05.34 minutes.
The K-2 and C-2 mixed 500 meters finals remain.

Cuba also finished first in the Athletics medal table at the 2nd Junior Pan American Games Asunción 2025. Winning eight gold medals, three silver, and two bronze, beating out Canada and Colombia.

The final day of athletics saw two more golden performances with hurdler Yander Luis Herrera winning the 110 meters and long-distance runner Oleisy Ferrer, who dominated the 3,000-meter steeplechase to set a junior Pan American record with a time of 8 minutes, 54 seconds, and 20 hundredths of a second.

Meanwhile, wrestling, known as the “Locomotive of Cuban Sport,” contributed three gold medals, five silver, and two bronce. Finishing third in the medal standings of the ancient discipline, surpassed by the United States (10-2-4) and Venezuela (4-2-3).

Meanwhile, with one gold and one bronze medal, Cuba’s fledgling squad of six weightlifters placed among the top countries in the sport of weightlifting.
