Cuban baseball authorities announced this Thursday that youth athletes born in 2008 or later will not be able to pitch in the upcoming National Series.
Cubs manager Lugdis Pineda reported that, in compliance with this regulation, pitchers Luis Daniel Rodríguez and Richar Bouquet will not be able to pitch with the team. The latter remains on the national pre-selection list for the under-18 category.
In his place will now be pitcher Yadir Bornot, from Gibara, who has recovered from an injury, and outfielder-catcher Cristian Arévalo from Santiago de Cuba, who played with the Wasps last season.
Regarding the Sultanes de Holguin right-hander, José Manuel Rivas, the Cubs manager stated that he is still recovering and, if his performance continues, could be promoted in October.
Pineda also announced the starting pitchers he plans to use in the first sub-series against the Alazanes de Granma: Wilson Paredes, Carlos Alberto Santiesteban, Jesús Enrique Pérez, Luis Cáser, and a fifth, which will be either Norge Luis Cobas or Uberleidys Estévez.
The National Baseball Series has its technical conference scheduled for this Friday, the 22nd, and if there are no last-minute changes, it will begin on September 2nd, with games in eight stadiums across the country.
The official opening will be at the Julio Antonio Mella Stadium, with a matchup between the reigning champions, Leñadores de las Tunas, and Vegueros de Pinar del Río.
