Cuba in eighth place in the medal table at Asunción

The five medals won today—one gold, three silver, and one bronze in athletics and another bronze in diving. Moved Cuba to eighth place in the medal table at the 2nd Junior Pan American Games in Asunción 25.

The Cuban representatives have so far accumulated five gold medals, five silver, and six bronze medals.

The opening day of the track and field competition saw the crowning of discus thrower Alejandra Mesa with a throw of 54.42 meters. Beating Venezuelan Ottaynis Febres by just two centimeters.

The silver medals went to Rosmaiby Quesada in the women’s long jump, Leykel Cabrera in the men’s javelin, and the 4x400m mixed relay team of Melissa Padrón, Yohendriz Bientz, Pierre Castillo, and Camila Rodríguez.

Claudia Guerrero won the bronze in the women’s javelin.

In the diving competition, Carlos Daniel Ramos took the bronze medal in the 10-meter platform event, on a day that saw him decline.

Ramos accumulated the best score in the qualifying round, but in the decisive round. He lost to Mexico’s Kenny Zamudio and Canada’s Benjamin Tessier, who took first and second, in that order.

Brazil remains at the top of the medal standings with an almost insurmountable lead over its runners-up, with 124 medals, including 58 gold. Colombia, in second place, has 68 total and 27 gold medals, and the United States is third with 75 and 23.
