The campaign to support Cuba launched by the Vietnam Red Cross is now close to fivefold its initial goal of raising 65 billion dong (more than 2,470,000 dollars).
According to the Central Committee of this humanitarian social organization, as of 8:00 a.m. (local time) this Monday. More than 1,650,000 contributions from citizens and organizations totaling 318.6 billion VND (approximately 12,250,000 dollars) had been received.
In thanking the millions of people who have supported the “65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Friendship” program so far on its Facebook page. The organization itself emphasized that “each contribution is not only material, but also a bridge of love that unites the loyal and steadfast friendship between the two nations.”
The Vietnam Red Cross Central Committee is calling for continued awareness of this humanitarian work, the publication noted, before reiterating that every contribution, no matter how small, conveys great affection and strengthens the relationship between Vietnam and Cuba.
The campaign is also widely reflected on social media, where among the thousands of messages posted, the common words “impressive,” “wonderful,” and “proud” are common.
In a Facebook post, Vu Kim Ngoc wrote: “I admire the Vietnamese spirit so much! I hope the contribution continues to rise.” Meanwhile, Minh Phuong commented that “it warms my heart to see the number growing day by day.”
Anh Trang, for her part, confessed that she visits social media every day to look for updated figures on the campaign. Trinh Nga pointed out that there are still many citizens who are not very internet-savvy and unaware of this program.
In this regard, Nga suggested publicizing the campaign through loudspeakers in each village and community so that everyone can help. Even more can be achieved, she expressed confidence.
“This is so wonderful. I am very proud of our Vietnam,” commented Thikhuyen Bui, while Trinh Tien Dung said she hoped many thousands more people would support Cuba.
Dong Song Long Lanh also made an appeal in this regard: “Increase, increase, increase forever,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Duyen added: “Let’s hope that once a year the Red Cross will ask for support for Cuba.”
The campaign to support the Cuban people, launched last Wednesday on the occasion of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro’s 99th birthday and in the context of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year and the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, will run until October 16.
