Serones Three Photovoltaic Plant Progresses in Holguin

Several actions and preparations were carried out at the Serones Tres photovoltaic park in the municipality of Cueto. As part of Holguin’s energy matrix transition to renewable sources.

Manuel Alejandro Suárez Sánchez, the project’s technical supervisor, informed the Cuban News Agency that the first construction phase was completed. Which consisted of the complete clearing of the land’s vegetation cover.

The park will provide a generating capacity of 21.8 megawatts (MW) to the National Electric Power System. During daylight hours, and installation is expected to be completed in December, Suárez Sánchez stated.

35 hectares of the site are being prepared for the installation of 42,588 solar panels, each with 460 watts of power.

The mechanical engineer, also detailed the removal of 97,000 cubic meters of topsoil. The creation of the security strip, and the construction of guardhouses. Following the arrival of containers with resources and the wiring necessary for the fence’s installation.

He emphasized that the project is being carried out by the Engineering Works Construction Company No. 16 (ECOI 16). With the Electric Company as an investor, and has the support of engineers from other entities.

This site is part of the program in Holguin aimed at providing 109 MW by the end of 2025 with the opening of five similar photovoltaic farms.

Thanks to a donation from the People’s Republic of China, another project is being developed that will generate 120 MW in the country. Of which the eastern province will initially have 40, distributed across six five-MW sites and one ten-MW site.

The construction of solar parks is a strategy implemented by the country since 2024 with the goal of increasing generation capacity through renewable energy sources. Gradually replacing the most expensive and environmentally harmful ones.
