This Friday 15th, the semifinal playoff matches of the 43rd edition of the provincial Sugar League Baseball tournament begin with doubleheaders.
The standings for the qualifying stage are as follows: 1- C. Naranjo (12-4); 2- U. Noris (10-6); 3- F. de Dios (9-7); and 4- L. Hechavarría (7-9). López Peña was eliminated from the semifinals with a 2-14 record.
Thus, the semifinal pairings, best-in-two, will be Cristino-Loynaz and Colosos de U. Noris-F. de Dios.
This Friday’s baseball doubleheaders will be held at Cristino Naranjo Stadium and Rogelio Pupo Ricardo Stadium in San Germán. In the case of a split honors, the Playoff will be decided on Sunday the 17th at Marcane Stadium and Delfin Fuentes Cano Stadium in Tacajo. The winners will advance to the final for the gold medal.
Loynaz Hechavarria won its first title in this competition last year by defeating its counterpart from Fernando de Dios 3-1 in the final. But then fell 2-1 to Arquimedes Colina, representing Granma, in the Eastern Zone.
In the XLII Liga Azucarera baseball tournament, the UEB Derivados Chiquitico Fabregat team from Villa Clara won the title. Thus securing its first title in this competition.
