Moments of Fidel Castro Immortalized in 100 Photographs

The photography exhibition “Fidel, Beyond the Myth,” open to the public at the Provincial Center for Visual Arts in Holguin. Showcases 100 images that immortalize special moments in the life of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.

Opened this Wednesday, the exhibition, curated by Roxana de La O Sánchez and Bertha Beltrán. Seeks to transcend aesthetics to become another way of understanding Cuban history from the 20th century to the present. Bringing the viewer closer through a chronological journey.

The exhibition houses the photographic work of twenty artists. Including Francisco Altuna, Vicente Cubillas, and Osvaldo Salas. Who captured with their lenses moments from Fidel’s childhood, his student years, his time of struggle, and his tenure as leader and guide of the Revolution.

Each snapshot provides an insight into the personality, leadership, greatness, and actions of a man who transcended human boundaries to become part of our memory. Emphasized Víctor Aguilera Nonell, first vice president of the Union of Cuban Historians in Holguin, who delivered the opening remarks.

The specialist emphasized that photography, from the moment it is taken, becomes a transcendental source for accurately understanding and depicting the past from the perspective of the authors. In the case of the leader of the Revolution, Fidel is one of the most photographed figures in history.

This is because his actions in the national and international political arena made him, from a very young age, a center of attention for photographers. Which has allowed for the creation of millions of images that bring the man closer to him, statesman, leader, guide, and friend, Aguilera Nonell noted.

Among children, young artists, historians, and other attendees, the inauguration was attended by Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, and first secretary of the Provincial Committee of that political organization in Holguin, and Manuel Francisco Aguilera, governor of the territory.

“Fidel, Beyond the Myth” will be available to the public until August 2026. As part of the celebrations for the centennial of Fidel Castro (1926-2016). Sponsored by the Directorate of Information and Social Communication. The Union of Cuban Historians, and the Provincial Directorate of Culture in Holguin.
