MSM Network with Educational Program for STI Prevention

The Holguin MSM (Men Who Have Sex with Men) Network, run by the Ministry of Public Health, is carrying out educational and prevention activities with the goal of promoting proper sexual education among different populations in this northeastern region.

Activities include discussions to raise awareness about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). As well as rapid testing and distribution of contraceptives.

Yander Quiñones Verdecia, provincial coordinator of the network, told the Cuban News Agency that the campaigns are aimed at all social groups, with particular attention to young people.

According to the specialist, throughout the year they conduct exchanges with students from the city’s university campuses. In addition to visits to clinics, polyclinics, workplaces, and communities.

He highlighted the network’s work disseminating information on the use and benefits of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). A high-impact method that reduces the risk of HIV infection in men who have sex with men.

With 25 years of existence, the network focuses its work on health promotion and STI monitoring. Through protection, research, training, and exchanges with the population.

The MSM Network belongs to the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Unit (Prosalud) and, in Holguin, is based at the Mario Gutiérrez Ardaya University Polyclinic. Its goal is to offer services that eliminate discrimination and stereotypes.
