The coxed eight won the medal today and opened Cuba’s medal tally in the rowing tournament of the second edition of the Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games, held in the bay of that Paraguayan city.
According to the multi-sport event website, the bronze medalists are Ronny Álvarez, Henry Heredia, Keiler Ávila, Adel Gutiérrez, Suárez, Robert Fernández, Paz, Félix Puentes, and Pedro González. Who covered the two thousand meters of the aquatic track with a time of 5:45.96 minutes. Behind the boats from Chile (5:42.26) and Brazil (5:45.75).
The Cuban crew crossed the first thousand meters in third place (2:51.94). Always ahead of the Chilean (2:48.36) and Brazilian (2:49.92). Therefore, the three crews defended their positions throughout the regatta in the direct final.
In this way, the Cuban crew demonstrated the continuity of the historic results of the senior coxed eight. Which has accumulated two gold medals (in 1991 and 2023). One silver (1975), and five bronze (1967, 1979, 1995, 1999, and 2019).
The remaining events with Cuban presence this Sunday were left off the podium, with Leduar Suárez and Roberto Carlos Paz placing fifth in the double sculls. Henry Heredia and Adel Gutiérrez placing sixth in the coxless double, both in the A finals. And singles athlete Ana Laura Jiménez placing third and last in the B final, finishing ninth overall.
Rowing action will continue this Monday, with Cuba participating in the heats of the women’s double sculls. Comprised of Claudia Tolón and Natalie Morales, and the men’s coxless four, comprised of Henry Heredia, Leduar Suárez, Roberto Carlos Paz, and Adel Gutiérrez, this time in the direct A final.
