Young Cubans Celebrate August 13th

August 13th Day began this Sunday in Santiago de Cuba with a tribute to the founding fathers of the Cuban nation and a visit to the former Moncada Barracks. Young artists and members of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) from across the Caribbean nation gathered.

During this day, tribute was paid to Armando Hart, Frank País, and Perucho Figueredo at the Santa Ifigenia Heritage Cemetery. Eduardo Sosa, Alcides Carlos (Titi), and Teresa Melo, longtime honorary members of the youth organization, were also remembered.

As part of the day of tribute, young Cuban artists will ascend Pico Turquino, the country’s highest peak. On August 7th, where they will remember the Apostle José Martí.

Until next Saturday, August 9th, members of the AHS will visit historic centers and bring their work to communities in eastern Cuba. On this occasion, in the company of the “Cuerdas del Alma” project, they will take their artistic work to the mountains, integrating music and sensitivity in a deeply symbolic space.

Each year, the Day pays tribute to the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz. Youth teacher and honorary member of the AHS; and to the brothers Luis and Sergio Saíz Montes de Oca, young people who inspired the organization’s name.
