The renowned Visual Arts Salon in Holguin, which will celebrate its 31st edition from September 10th to 14th. Continues the process of receiving entries for its competition.
This event, organized by the Provincial Center for Visual Arts, has become a benchmark since its inception in 1984. Offering a vital space for the promotion and dissemination of diverse aesthetic and artistic proposals in the province.
Yuricel Moreno Zaldívar, director of the Provincial Center for Visual Arts, shared details about the event and its organizational process:
“The Visual Arts Salon is the most important competitive event held in all the country’s provinces. It’s an event that has been around for over 40 years, and due to its biennial nature, it reaches its 31st edition in 2025.
In our case, the new feature this year is that we’ve eliminated the provincial nature of the salon. That is, we decided to broaden the scope of the event to include participation by artists residing anywhere in the country. The prize money was increased to a figure that’s slightly more in line with the current situation in the country.”

According to Moreno Zaldívar, the event “is an opportunity for artists to present their 2024 and 2025. Creations that have not previously competed in other events to their peers, the public, and specialists.”
Furthermore, within this framework, the theme will be open, with no restrictions on genre or expression, meaning painting, sculpture, engraving, installations, performance, and video creation. There is a fairly wide range of visual arts expressions to compete in, emphasized Dr. C., also an art curator.
Due to this wide variety of expressions in the competition, the event is also preparing to award as many mentions as the jury deems appropriate.
Collateral prizes will also be awarded by institutions that accompany each edition. Such as the Casa de Iberoamérica, the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets, the Hermanos Saiz Association, the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, among others.
As on other occasions, the fair is accompanied by a series of collateral events such as exhibitions, discussions, and lectures led by invited guests and other artists.
However, another first for this edition will be the presentation of the documentary that was UNEAC’s collateral award winner last year. Dedicated to the artist José Miguel Leyva and the filmmakers Frank Batista and his team Desde Cero and Dayamí Rodríguez, Moreno announced.
Submissions are still open at the Holguin Provincial Center for Visual Arts. Located at 180 Maceo Street, corner of Martí Street, and will run until September 3rd.
