Gibara Hospital Prioritizes Care for Vulnerable Groups

Through community outreach consultations, the Gustavo Aldereguía Lima Hospital, located in the Holguin municipality of Gibara. Prioritizes care for vulnerable groups, one of the most important programs in the health sector.

These initiatives cover rural and hard-to-reach areas of the municipal capital and the Velasco People’s Council. Also served by this center, Susana Pérez Serviño, director of the institution, told the Cuban News Agency.

The consultations include specialties such as Internal Medicine, Neurology, Cardiology, Otorhinolaryngology, Gastroenterology, Pediatrics, and Gynecology-Obstetrics. The latter two are provided through the Maternal and Child Care Program, she emphasized.

She explained that community interventions, case discussions, and the identification of pregnant and breastfeeding women at risk are carried out on weekends.

The center maintains close collaboration with provincial hospitals and is perfecting the implementation of the Family Doctor and Nurse Program, in which the institution plays a key role.

It also promotes the prevention of teenage pregnancy, the assessment of risk factors for chronic non-communicable diseases, and early cancer detection, among other initiatives.

The Gustavo Aldereguía Lima Teaching Hospital was founded on July 26th 1960, by José Ramón Machado Ventura and has 42 outpatient services and more than 400 beds.
