With an artistic gala steeped in Cuban identity, the 72nd anniversary of the assault on the Moncada barracks in Santiago de Cuba and the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks in Bayamo on July 26th, 1953. It was honored in the Raúl Camayd Hall of the Eddy Suñol Theater Cultural Complex.
In the presence of Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee and First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in the province of Holguin, and other political, governmental, and cultural authorities in the territory. Various Holguin artistic companies displayed their talent to pay tribute to the date that would open the doors to true independence for the Cuban people.
Under the artistic and general direction of Víctor Osorio and production by Mayda Escalona. The performance featured, among others, members of the Codanza Contemporary Dance Company. The La Campana Folklore Company, dancer Miguel Alejandro Corella, and soloists Ernesto Infante, Isabel Torres, Yhamila Rodríguez, Kenia Allen, Luis Alberto Góngora, and Dianelys Torres.
The Moncada Barracks gained historical significance on July 26th, 1953, when a group of 135 anti-Batista guerrillas. Divided into three columns commanded by Fidel Castro, Abel Santamaría, and Léster Rodríguez, stormed the barracks.
Despite its failure, this attack marked the beginning of the struggle. That would culminate in the triumphant entry of Santiago de Cuba. On January 1st, 1959 ushering in the Cuban Revolution.
July 26th is a date honored by every Cuban who values freedom and the history that emerged. From the jungle with the Mambises to that historic day. When Cuban rebels risked their lives for the cause they considered just.
