The land that welcomes and bids farewell to visitors from Holguin

Located on the Central Highway, the municipality of Calixto García welcomes and bids farewell to visitors from the province of Holguin, in eastern Cuba.

Predominantly agricultural, and noted for its sustained work in social care, healthcare, and the economy, this territory was selected as the site of the provincial event for July 26th, National Rebellion Day, in recognition of its contributions to the region’s socioeconomic development.

Renovated buildings and the renewal of the urban image, largely in response to the population’s demands, surprised locals and visitors alike and demonstrate the progress made by this territory, characterized by its extensive arable land and the preservation of rural customs.

Investments such as the rehabilitation of the Family Care System’s dining halls, the Buenaventura and Cabezuela aqueducts, the pediatrics and obstetrics wards, and the sterilization area of the Nicodemus Regalado León Municipal Hospital will allow for superior care for pregnant women, seniors, and infants.

As a transit link, the town promoted the paving and repair of roads through the application of innovative techniques, such as cold asphalt, to ensure greater safety for freight and passenger vehicles.

Among the region’s distinctive features is food diversification based on innovative experiences in small-scale industries and the productive linkage with farmers. An example of this is La Gloria, where mango and guava preserves, condiments, vinegars, and pulp contribute to meeting local demand and supporting social institutions.

In the agricultural sector, the use of genetics is being perfected to obtain livestock breeds resistant to climate change. There is a commitment to the application of science and innovation in the cultivation of pastures and forages, and to the use of extenders to guarantee the availability of bread, sweets, and cookies.

Leonardo Batista Pupo, first secretary of the Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, explained to CNA the effort and perseverance of leaders and residents in promoting the planting of root vegetables and vegetables, livestock farming, and local self-sufficiency.

He emphasized that work is also being done to improve family doctor and nurse programs in rural areas, as well as to maintain zero infant and maternal mortality rates, one of the main achievements of the period.

From a point on the Central Highway, Buenaventura, as a town center, constitutes a space for meeting and transit, which is diversifying and flourishing in the search for greater comfort and a better quality of life for its population.
