With the customary graduation ceremony, held in its Náyade Proenza Hall, the Holguin branch of the University of the Arts concluded the 2024-2025 academic year.
Ten students graduated: five from the Faculty of Music, with a singing focus, and the same number from the Faculty of Audiovisual Media Arts. Specializing in Directing, Production, Photography, and Editing.
The highest-ranking graduates were singers Cristhian Alvarado Corrales and Liz Laura Ponce de León, both Gold Titles. Along with the other graduates, they presented pieces included in their graduation recitals that demonstrate the talent and rigor of their training.
The duet of “Parigi o cara” from Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “La Traviata”. “Habanera” from Georges Bizet’s opera “Carmen”. The romance “Flor Roja” from the Spanish zarzuela “Los Gavilanes”. “On va habrán” from the operetta “La Vie Parisienne” by Jacques Offenbach. And “Think of Me” from the musical “The Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber, among others.
Meanwhile, the Media Arts graduates showcased the results of their final year exercises. Ranging from the practice of intellectual montage in animation, photography based on dramatic discourse. Production under adverse conditions, production design for a video letter as an audiovisual format for Televisión Serrana. Also the representation of everyday life through the documentary genre.
The University of the Arts in Holguin was pleased to recognize and express its gratitude. Through the Music graduates of this class, for the work of four professionals and teachers with vast experience. Soprano Dianelys Torres Díaz, baritone Alfredo Más López, the director of the Holguin Symphony Orchestra, Oreste Saavedra, and pianist Anniela Maldonado O’Ryan.
At the closing ceremony, to preserve a beautiful tradition of the institution, faculty and students once again sang “Quiéreme mucho” by maestro Gonzalo Roig. Whose 135th birthday will be celebrated next Sunday, July 20th.
The University of the Arts, with campuses in Havana, Camagüey, Santiago de Cuba, and Holguin, is the only one of its kind in the country and opened its doors as the Higher Institute of Arts (ISA) on September 1st, 1976. With faculties of Music, Dance, Theater Arts, Visual Arts, Audiovisual Media, and Heritage Conservation.
