Holguin Journalists Celebrate UPEC’s 62nd Anniversary

The Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) celebrated its 62nd anniversary on July 15th. A date that recognized the profession’s professionals in Holguin.

In the presence of officials from the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Holguin, the ceremony was the stage for the presentation of the Journalism Diploma certificate to more than 10 professionals. Over several months, they overcame various obstacles to complete the program. Which brought more qualified colleagues into the journalistic profession.

Jorge Ramiro Velázquez Remón was also recognized for his exemplary career for more than a decade as director of the team representing Holguin in the National Press Softball Championship. He officially retired from this role.

During the ceremony, the most outstanding grassroots press delegations in the province were also recognized for their consistent and enthusiastic work serving the interests of journalists and the media they represent. Such as those of Periódico Ahora, Radio Mayarí, Radio Juvenil, and Radio S.G. La Voz del Azúcar. As well as a group of state and non-state entities that have supported and collaborated with UPEC.

From the Delegate of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples in Holguin (ICAP), Lupe Isabel Fernández Ramírez, the Union of Journalists received the “Peace, Friendship, and Solidarity” distinction. Also as well as recognition from the Party and the territorial government.

More than 60 years have passed since UPEC was established as an expression of the will of Cuban journalists to organize for the proper practice of their profession. To this day, the people of Holguin continue to champion honest and transparent practice.
